First of all, congratulations for getting this far! Most people only talk about making a film, but clearly you are here with the intent of submitting.
We hope you use this opportunity to learn as much as you can about being a director, as this is not a contest it will be up to you to get the most of it. Have fun, entertain your peers, but perhaps above all, challenge yourself! The production period is just around the corner, so sit tight, and we all look forward to experiencing your points of view.
Requirements:
Your completed film of no more than ten minutes must be completed and submitted by the end of May 31st, 2010. A fee of $35 must be included in the delivery of your film as either a check or money order and made out to "ViewPoint Film Challenge".
For shipping, please send to: ViewPoint Film Challenge 188 Eglinton Ave East, suite 212 Toronto Ontario M4P 2X7 Canada
The ViewPoint film creative process has always been 30 days, so if submitting by mail please make sure your delivery has been post dated for before the end of May. We are also willing to accept films VIA FTP if you have access to one, however, given that bandwidth is not free, we will have to demand that your film be no larger than 2GB if uploading it. Otherwise, try to keep your file at a reasonable size for us to work from, thanks!
We also recommend including a photo and bio of yourself when submitting for promotional purposes.
Format: DVD "Player ready" DVDs are not recommended, the preferred format for ViewPoint is as a video file format such as Quicktime file or AVI.
You may submit your file on a DVD, USB or other easily readable formats. Sorry, but tapes will not be accepted. For you high end filmmakers out there, please keep the resolution no higher than 1920x1080. We will not accept uncompressed movie files, so please use any one of the standard compression formats of your choice.
Credits: We feel it is important to mention giving credit where it is due. Although it is not mandatory, we recommend you consider all those who helped work on your film, even if not directly related. So if you have chosen to use unlicensed music for your film, the least you could do is credit the original artist. As for the writer's credit, remember that your version of the story was not written for you, so it might be best to specify that your film was "Based on Dialogue by Tomas Street". And finally, don't forget to put your film into context by mentioning it as being part of the "ViewPoint Film Challenge #3", so that people understand your intentions.
Presentation: Once we've received all of the files, we will be reviewing each one and will decide on which films will be screened to fit within a comfortable screening period of no more than two hours.
The screening location has yet to be solidified, however it will take place on June 17th in Toronto, ON.
The remaining films will be hosted on the ViewPoint website following the screening.
Please stay tuned for more information as it becomes available in the coming weeks. Take care, and we all look forward to experiencing your point of view!
